Day 13 - Family Arrives

Today the kids were very excited because the Fixlers, Minnillos and Grammy were coming.  While we waited for them we went to an antique open market on Rue Cler.  It was just for the weekend and there were some gorgeous pieces of furniture.  We had lunch at Cafe Republique where everyone met us.  For the size of the crowd, the lunch was great.  We headed to the Flower market on Place Louis Lepine.  During the week, it is only a flower market but on Sunday it transforms into a bird market.  All the kids had a great time petting the birds, plus some bunnies.  We thought of Ernie, Mark's parrot.  Next door is Notre Dame so we walked into it.  The kids were determined to walk to the top of the towers despite the rain.  Most  climbed to the tippy top of a tower while some went only to the gargoyles.  Gracie, Grammy and I stayed inside the cathedral to listen to the vespers.  The organ music was booming, almost disturbing.  Once we reconnected, it was pouring and cold.  BUT, undeterred, we walked to the other island, Ile St. Louis, and found a cafe to try the famous ice cream Berthillon.  It was delicious and as expensive as Serendipity in NYC.  I heard one of my nieces say it isn't as good as Aglamesis, an ice cream shop in Cincinnati.  After we ate, the visitors retired for the evening and we had a nice quiet night at the apartment.  Gracie liked playing with her cousins, eating the ice cream and going to the bird market.  Jackson liked playing a race with his cousins on the way to Notre Dame's gift shop.  (Watching Bugs Bunny videos on youtube is a down-time favorite here. Jackson captured a moment of that here for your enjoyment.)
