Day 8 - Opera Garnier

The kids and I started our day by purchasing tickets for the night's ballet performance at the Opera Garnier.  Afterwards, we walked to the Jardin des Tuileries for lunch.  We ate at a cafe called Cafe Renard.  The food was okay.  We learned while eating that despite how hungry Jackson was he couldn't eat because his tooth was very loose.  Jack wasn't with us because he had lunch with the students at a creperie in the Marais area.  Afterwards, we strolled in the park until we reached the pond.  There were many Parisians relaxing during their lunch break.  Gracie decided we should be just like them so we sat in the chairs, took off our shoes (except Jackson) and read or wrote. It was very nice to sit down.  Later we walked to the end of the park to look at the Musee du Louvre.  We didn't go inside but the kids thought the glass pyramid was beautiful.  We hopped on the bus to get ready for our big night at the ballet.  We went to see Proust ou les intermittences du coeur at the Opera Garnier with Kerry, Emily and Hannah.  The Opera Garnier is breathtaking.  It was built in 1875 and recently renovated.   I wasn't prepared for our seats to be in box seats.  The six of us (Hannah was free since she is under 2) split up into 3 groups.  Each group was in a box that seats six.  We had the cheap tickets so we were all in the last seats with the kids sitting on our laps.  Our view was obstructed but it was worth the 10 euros to be there.  Almost all of the upper level seats are in boxes, each of which is opened by an attendant.  Additionally, each box has a little hallway with a mirror and shelf before you reach your seat.  One could imagine primping one last time before making an appearance.  The kids critique on the performance -- it was too long.  Only Jackson made it to intermission.  So we left to get ice cream and french fries which we found at McDonalds.   The grand finale was Jackson losing his tooth before he fell asleep.
